Demand avoidance is an anxiety driven need to resist the demands of every day life and when adolescence comes along it can seem like this ramps up to a whole new level. Our teenagers can become so anxious that they can't live the lives that they want.
This webinar is a deep dive into the psychology of demand avoidance, adolescence and anxiety. Naomi will explain how anxiety works and why demand avoidance isn't just about the need to avoid demands, but can also become a need to avoid feelings and thoughts as well. She'll talk about the developmental needs of adolescents, and why this can be such an anxious time of life for everyone.
You'll end with a better understanding of why your teenager is anxious and some ideas to help them to move forward. There will be some practical tips to help you work with your teen so that they (and you) can live the life that they want.
It is suitable for teenagers with and without a diagnosis. Demand avoidance is a behavioural trait and can be experienced by autistic and non-autistic people.
If your teen finds that the anxiety provoked by the demands of every day life is just too much, then this webinar might be helpful.

Feedback from earlier webinars
Your webinar was hugely reassuring and managed to provide clarity on the complex, unfathomable, frustrating times we have had as a family. It sounds a massive cliche but I felt someone finally understood what our life has been like. You showed great empathy with children and families struggling with this baffling and painful situation, coming from a place of experience.
I really appreciated your messages of hope- this is a journey and we will come out the end.
After your webinar we are more able to support our daughter, speak to her special setting confidently & already supported better decision making with her needs at the centre.
